«Strengthening strengths» as a leadership principle

The remarkable master's thesis by Swiss student Joel Mattli, which I supervised in 2021 at the University of St. Gallen, focusses on the management principle 'strengthening strengths', as a successful approach for modern managers based on current studies. In addition, he underpins the principle with qualitative surveys of well-known experts, from the fields of Neuroscience, Psychology, Sport and Business. According to a Gallup study, 80% of 1.4 million respondents do not get to practice their strengths in their everyday work. Moreover, the experts interviewed by Joel Mattli, emphasized how damaging omnipresent deficit-oriented education and schooling is for the development of young people.
The training plan template for managers, developed by Joel Mattli, is of particular value and can be accessed free of charge in the appendix to the thesis. It can be immediately implemented and can be adapted to the individual. By implementing the strengths-based training plan, not only can we expect increased work performance for the company, but also increased intrinsic motivation, self-esteem and well-being of employees.
